The Sessions
-
We’ll spend time together building power in our bodies through your choice of rough housing, punching, kicking, and/or Filipino stick fighting!
-
In this session you will learn: ❤️🔥how down regulate and interrupt the stress response ❤️🔥how exhale fully, and align your diaphragm for expansion ❤️🔥how to activate your hamstrings to support a neutral pelvis ❤️🔥 how to release your tension in your neck by breathing differently
-
This guided session invites participants to cultivate mindfulness through the soothing act of watercolor painting while listening to calming music. You’ll learn basic watercolor techniques as you create your own peaceful landscapes or abstract pieces. No prior painting experience is necessary—just bring your willingness to unwind and express yourself.
-
"This session honors Fihavanana, a Malagasy practice of deep kinship and collective care, as a guide for nurturing sustainable community care networks. By centering ancestral knowledge and experiences in youth-led movements, we will explore how these living traditions inspire and sustain mutual aid practices today."
-
Come and build the foundation for our community crest (think group touchstone, altar, or recharge space). We will lay fabric, collect beauty from the land, and set up the crest for the community to engage with in the evening. Bring your intentions, good vibes, prayers, and skills to the Crest Circle!
-
Plants and animals are our kin, our family. We belong to them just as they belong to us. This is a crucial, sacred and affirming relationship. Healing is a community need, and our community consists of multiple species of earthling. Plus learning random nature facts is the coolest.
-
Queer History + Crafts will provide attendees an opportunity to learn local LGBTQ history and get creative through collaging, artwork, or zine-making.
-
Meet us at the intersection of your queer story and big ideas. This session will explore queer becomings through the lens of creating queer collectives.
-
Participants will experience a 15 minute mini portrait session that can be used for updated headshots, empowering portraits, and more! My photography style is casual and go-with-the-flow, with the aim of capturing folks authentically. I understand that many people often feel awkward or uncomfortable being photographed, and bring that awareness to each session to help others feel confident and themselves. You deserve to be seen as you are, where you are!
-
In this presentation, I will sketch a timeline and share information about some of the significant ways LGBTQ+ issues connect and intersect with our nation’s K-12 education system. Approximately half of the session will be spent on direct learning, while the remaining time will be reserved for collaborative learning. As this is a collective endeavor, audience participation and questions are encouraged throughout.
Through this session, I hope first to increase awareness of the intersection of LGBTQ+ issues and education. Secondly, I aim to create a space that allows us to learn from one another and engage our full, authentic selves in productive, collaborative discussions. Finally, my ultimate hope is that this session will help provide us with the necessary context and tangible skills to feel empowered to better support all members of our (school) communities.
The Schedule
At Camp Out - Vandy, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment. Our space is neurodivergent-run and welcomes all feedback regarding accessibility. We have taken the following steps to ensure a welcoming as possible space:
Fragrance-Free / Minimal Fragrance Zone: We ask that all participants refrain from using scented products or choose fragrance-free options whenever possible, supporting attendees with chemical sensitivities and sensory needs.
Sensory-Friendly Accommodations: We will offer quiet rooms, introvert-friendly, and designated low-sensory areas to support attendees who may need a break or quieter environment.
Physical Accessibility: Our venue will be fully wheelchair accessible, with seating accommodations and clear pathways to ensure mobility for all participants. Service animals are, of course, welcome.
